Liposuction is the technique in which a long tube is inserted beneath the skin to suction excess fat from a specific area, such as the hips, thighs, upper arms, neck, abdomen, and buttocks, to remove accumulated fat.

Consultation

The patient discusses with a surgeon. 

Pre-liposuction

The surgeon injects a local anesthetic at the target area, so the patient is free from pain. In some cases, anesthesia is used by an anesthesiologist. 

Method

A surgeon inserts a small tube underneath the skin at the target area to suction excess fat.

After-surgery care

A surgeon gives advice and regularly checks up with the patient.  

Preparation Instructions

Preparation before liposuction

  • The patient informs health condition to a surgeon. 
  • The patient informs a surgeon about health background. 
  • Stop taking some types of medicines for at least 7 days before surgery, such as aspirin and painkiller. 
  • Stop smoking and drinking alcoholic drinks. 
  • Take a shower before surgery. 
  • NPO as per surgeon’s recommendation in case anesthesia is applied. 
  • Wear a loose top on the surgery day. 
  • For the female patient, avoid the menstruation period.  

Aftercare

  • The patient may feel burning or have swelling within 24 hours after surgery. A surgeon prescribes a painkiller and advises to apply cold compression.     
  • After one month, use the elastic bandage to tighten the targeted area. It helps reduce swelling and tighten the muscles. The symptoms will improve within one month.
  • On the third day after surgery, the patient can take a shower if the wound is dry without redness or swelling or a burning feeling. Wipe the wound dry and apply the powder around the wound, if there is itching. 
  • A surgeon schedules for stitches removal in one week. Do not apply the anti-keloid cream. Only gently rub around the bruise.
  • Refrain from exercise for one month during the treatment period. 
  • Control dietary and exercise in the long term to maintain the figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can liposuction remove cellulite?

Liposuction can somewhat remove cellulite, but not 100%. 

A surgeon makes small incisions in the hidden spots, such as the groin and under clothing, so the scar is invisible.   



Local anesthetic and anesthesia are used, depending on the area and patient’s desire. A surgeon will advise the most appropriate type of anesthetic to the patient. However, the patient is free from pain.

In general, 4-5 liters of fat can be removed in one procedure. A surgeon will evaluate the case as appropriate, depending on the amount of the patient’s fat.
